BOWLING.

NIGHT PLAY. RAIN MARS OPENING. The inclement weather which prevailed during last evening put a decided damper on the opening of the night play at the local green. However, quite a number turned up and were welcomed by the president, Mr J. W. Silcock, who officially declared the green open for night play. He stated that competitions would be held on every Thursday night. The full rink play for the buttons would commence right away, and . the green would be available on Tuesday and Thursday nights in each week. The ladies would not be asked to provide supper on Thursday nights, as they had done in the past, as the club had decided to supply tea and biscuits on that night. This action of the club, he felt sure, would be greatly appreciated by the ladies, who, in addition to paying 6d, brought a basket of cakes, and this really made it more expensive for a lady player to take part than for a man. He regretted that the elements had treated the club so badly that night, but hoped a change for the better would soon manifest itself. Several lady players had particularly asked for the green to be open on Boxing Night,, and Mr Silcock said that this would be arranged provided the weather was at all suitable.
