TO-NIGHT. ALIAS JIMMY VALENTINE. To-night will be the last chance of witnessing that popular talkie “Alias Jimmy Valentine.” SATURDAY NIGHT. BEHIND THAT CURTAIN. “Behind That Curtain,” a Fox Movietone production, starring Warner Baxter and Lois Moran, will to-morrow night commence a season extending over the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings. Others in the strong cast include Gilbert Emery, Claude King, Philip Strange, Boris Karloff, and Janrill Hassan, and each gives a convihcing portrayal. Based on the novel by Earl Derr Biggers, author of several best sellers, the story opens in London, with the mysterious murder of a barrister, whose investigations into their private affairs promise to involve two of the principals, John Beetham, an expolorer, and Eric Durand, an adventurer with a shady past. Beetham is in love with Eve Mannering (Lois Moran), and, on the eve of his departure on an expedition from India across the Persian Desert, learns that she has secretly married Durand and is about to leave India. A series of startling events follows, in which a prominent figure is Sir William Bruce, head of Scotland Yard, a role splendidly played by Emery. TURUA PICTURES. THE BRANDED SOMBRERO. “The Branded Sombrero,” showing to-morrow night at the Turua Hall, is the unusually strange story of a father who rustled cattle from neighbouring ranches and branded the record of his thefts on his hat. At his death the son inherits the hat and. the debt of honour. Buck Jones plays the role of the son with fine feeling. THE POPPIES OF FLANDERS. On Tuesday night “The Poppies of Flanders” will be screened. This is a story of a girl fighting for the salvation of a drunken remittance man who in turn gave his life for her lover. The location of the picture is ■ Africa, France, and England. It is from the original story by “Sapper,” and is a picture with a soul.
