PAEROA SHOW.
SPLENDID ENTRIES RECEIVED.
KEEN COMPETITION PROMISED,
Splendid entries have been received for the Hauraki A. and P. Association’s Show to be held at Paeroa on Thursday next, December 5, a fact which promises a most interesting event and an outstanding success.
The entries for the horse events are numerous and noteworthy. The leading hunters of the province, including the champions of the Auckland and Te Aroha shows, have been nominated. Eleven entries have been received for the Dominion Hunter class, 14 for the light-weight hunter, and 12 for the champion hunter. Competing in the Dominion Hunter event are such wellknown horses as Mr A. M. Samuel’s El Arish, Mr B. Myers’ Heather Belle, Mr P. H. Clarkin’s Polite, the .Auckland champion ; Mr S. A. Woods’ Colleen Bawn, first at Auckland and 2econd at Hamilton, which is one of the largest events in the Dominion ; Miss L. Johnson’s Spark, which >von the event at Paeroa last year ; Mr W. G. Lawes’ Beau Geste, Mr C. Merrin’s Two-step, Mr A. M. Fisher’s Tui, Mr Wynn Brown’s Saunterer, Kereone’s, Ltd., Mick, and Mr J. B. McNaughton’s Roger—an impressive list of champions.
The hack classes will be well represented, -and although the harness and gig entries are not numerically strong, the half-dozen horses listed are wellknown high quality animals. Entries of schoolboys’ ponies number 14, and it is quite evident from the unusually spruce and sleek-looking appearance of the children’s mounts passing through Paeroa that keen interest has been aroused in the boys. In the cattle section Jerseys, as usual, predominate, while Friesians have been entered well. The calf class has created great enthusiasm among the children. , Considering the hot weather usually experienced, at the show, a good number of pigs will be seen, while sheep, remembering how few breeders there are in the district, will be well represented, more especially Romneys. The Judges. The following have consented to act as judges : Light horses and hunters, Mr J. N. Massey, Puni ; draughts and ponies, Mr W. Verran, Thames ; Jerseys, ' Mr T. D. Reid, Epsom ; milk stock, Mr J. Whitmore, Kopuarahi ; Shorthorns, fat stock, and sheep, Mr A. L. Collie, Papatoetoe. The judge for Friesians will be appointed later. Fully competent judges have been appointed for the monster baby show, an event for which post entries will be received. The space for industrial exhibits and side-shows has practically all been booked, a noteworthy factor being the number of motor-cars which will be on view. The association received very encouraging support from the business firms of Paeroa and elsewhere, and many new members have been enrolled. It now only remains for fine weather and a good attendance at the working bee to-morrow to ensure unqualified success.
