SALVATION ARMY.
NEW DIFFICULTIES ALLEGED. PRESENT CONTROL CRITICISED. In the “Hauraki Plains Gazette” of Friday, October 25, was published an original article on the subject of alleged dissension in the ranks of the Salvation Army. The following cable from London, dated October 28, supports the article : — “According to the ‘Evening News’ new cleavages and controversies embarrass the Salvation Army, whose officers and members all over the country are protesting against the Committee of Control. The disclosure that General Booth left property worth only £913 has caused a revulsion of feeling in his favour, while the transfer of many of his relatives to other posts of minor importance has caused bitter discussion. “Apparently General Higgins has not returned from Canada any too soon, and matters appear to be approaching a crisis. The question of control will be raised m November, when a petition will be submitted to General Higgins and the High Council urging the resumption of one-man control as being the most compatible with the Army’s ideals. . “General Higgins denies the allegations of victimisation of General Booth’s relatives.”
