FIGURES FOR PAEROA.

AVERAGE LOWER THAN IN 1928.

Last month 3.26 inches of rainfall were recorded in Paeroa, being .71 more than in September, and 3.47 less than the same month last year. The whole of the year so far has been drier, with 42.62 inches, than the corresponding period in 1928, when 56.43 inches were recorded.

Rain last month fell on 12 days, with the 23rd, showing 1.85 inches, the worst day. From the 14th to the 21st, inclusive, there was no rain. The wettest week was the fourth in the month with 2.09 inches.

The warmest days were the 9th, 10th, and 31st, with 62 degrees, six degrees more than the warmest day in September, and the coldest was the 15th, with 50 degrees.

The prevailing wind came from the north-east, on eight days altogether, the direction of the wind for the balance of the month being north-west on six days, south-east on five days, south-west on six days, east on three days, and west on three days. HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. Eight falls of rain, totalling 2.73 inches, were recorded for the month of October at the office of the Lands Drainage Department, Kerepeehi. On the Bth there was .42, on the 9th .60, the 13th .62, and the 23rd .95, and on the other four days less than .1. The total for the month was 1.38 inches below the average for October during the last 17 years, only three lower totals having been recorded for the month in that period. These were in 1927 (2.04), 1914 (.78), and 1913 12).

The total for the ten months of the present year is 32.81 inches, compared with 36.60 inches, the average for the similar periods of the last 17 years. This year’s total is lower than that of all the past 17 years with the exception of those of 1921, 1919, 1914, and 1913.
