HIT BY MOTOR-CAR.
SCHOOLGIRL SERIOUSLY HURT.
MISHAP ON PEKAPEKA ROAD.
Very serious injuries as the result of being knocked down by a motor-car were received by the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Cooper, of Pekajbeka Road, last Thursday afternoon. s ?
The child, Elva Josephine Hooper, aged 5 years and 10 months, was returning home by the school bus, which stopped a short distance beyond the farm gate for her to alight, and although the mishap was viewed by the mother, it is difficult to ascertain just what happened. The child ran down the side of the road until opposite the gate and then started to cross, when she was hit by a big Buick car driven by a man from Otahuhu. The car was stopped 57ft further on. She was unconscious when picked up, and had three big wounds on her head and severe abrasions on her legs and body. An Auckland service car brought the child to Paeroa for medical attention, but it was late on Friday before she regained consciousness. Upon inquiry this morning it was learned that the child is progressing favourably, and will probably be able to leave the private hospital for her home some time this week.
