PAEROA-POKENO RAILWAY.
Sir.—Having read a statement in thp Thames Star saying, “Despite official or interested denials, no matter what source they may come from, the Thames Star is in a position to state that the Paeroa-Pokeno line will not eventuate,” I inquired in the city from recognised authorities on newspaper’ practice as to the rule on such matters. I was assured that there were cases on record of the manufacture of “stunt” stories by a' certain type of newspaper. It was a recognised rule that any statement of the kind mentioned was quite worthless and should not be taken Without a grain of salt unless the authority for the statement was definitely named. In any case, it is now emphatically denied by the Prime Minister. Paeroa has received a great amount of publicity over this railway which, possibly, the Thames business men do not enjoy reading. PAEROA.
