NGATEA. SWIMMING CLUB. There was a better attendance at the adjourned meeting of the Ngatea Swimming Club on Wednesday evening, and it was agreed to make an endeavour to carry on during the coming season. The opinion was expressed that more enthusiasm would be shown as the season advanced. The following officers were elected : President, Mr J. E. Reid ; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. Hayward and W. Chappell; secretary and treasurer, Mr P. Foster ; committee, Messrs R. C. Abel, W. Dawson, J. Leach, Misses Chatfield and L. Luks. Membership fees were fixed at 5s for men, 2s 6d for ladies, and Is for schoolchildren. In view of the financial position it was decided not to affiliate with the South Auckland Swimming Association at the present time. As a means of securing members it was suggested that a tournament be held for members only, the matter being left in the hands of the committee. It was arranged to hold a working bee to fix up the embankment and repair the dressing-sheds on Saturday next. The question of the club taking over the floating pontoon bath from the trustees was discussed, and it was agreed that the president confer with members of the pontoon committee. The pontoon required to be hauled up and given a dressing of preservative. LABOUR PARTY BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea branch of the N.Z. Labour Party was held on Tuesday evening, Mr W. Phillips presiding. An interesting discussion of an explanatory nature was given by Messrs E. N. Davies and D. Stewart on the proposed unemployment insurance scheme. For the next meeting it was decided to discuss the hire-purchase system.
