BOWLING IN PAEROA.
STARS AND SHIELD GAMES.
ANOTHER TROPHY PRESENTED. The Paeroa bowling season will open on Saturday, October 5. It promises to be a splendid year, for among other things the green has been vastly improved under the assiduous care of Mr W. Hamilton, and is now in such a state as to make last year’s level appear like a billowy sea. It will be remembered that last season Paeroa had to forego its right to hold the Goldfields Stars and Clothier Shield games here owing to the poor state of the green, and the event was staged at Te Aroha instead. According to the rules of these two most interesting events, they should be played at Paeroa every second year, so this season, owing to the local green being in such excellent order, Paeroa will pick up the days she lost last year and the games for these trophies will be played at the Domain green on October 26 and 28, the latter date being Labour Day. Both the Stars and the Shield arc at present held by Matamata, but there is every likelihood that they will remain in Paeroa after the. visiting teams in the tournament depart. General Notes. Mr G. Vowles is presenting a trophy for the pairs competition. Paeroa bowlers have contributed 49s to the Dominion Bowlers’ Fund for earthquake relief. Under this scheme every trundler in New Zealand gave Is.
