THE CORONATION.
FINAL COMMITTEE MEETING. EXPENSES MET. The final meeting of the crowning committee of the recent Queen Carnival was held on Friday evening, Mr H. J. Hare, chairman, presiding over Messrs D. G. McMillan, A. F. Steedman, P. Williams, and C. N. O’Neill (secretary). The statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the crowning ceremony showed the total receipts to be £52 0s 9d, and the expenditure £56 16s 7d. There were a few small credits still to be shown which would probably offset the deficiency. The committee had therefore discharged its obligations in this respect, in that the cost of the production of the ceremony had been met without recourse to the funds raised by the carnival. Eulogistic references were made to the satisfactory manner in which the Mistress of the Robes (Mrs D. G. McMillan) had carried out her arduous duties, and to the expert and skilful manner in which the box plan committee, comprising Messrs D. G. McMillan J. W. Silcock, and E. Edwards, had performed their difficult and intricate task.
It was also decided to place on record the committee’s appreciation of the efforts of the producer, Mr P. Williams, in connection with the preliminary organisation, and of the distinction with which he had brought the ceremony to such a successful conclusion.
