DANCE AND SOCIAL.

CADET BAND’S EVENING.

AN ENJOYABLE AFFAIR.

On Monday ■ evening a most enjoyable dance and euchre tournament was held in the Gaiety Theatre to augment the funds of the local Cadet Band. The affair was a complete and memorable success from the point of view of those attending, and it is to be hoped that financially the band will benefit to the same extent, for if it does, then the result will be doubly one calling for satisfacton and congratulation. The hall was well filled by the time the Regal orchestra struck up tantalising music, which soon had a crowded floor of couples dancing to its strains. Not only was Paeroa represented in strength, but Thames, Te Aroha, Waihi, and Hauraki Plains added their quota.

The euchre players enjoyed keen and the results of the evening’s play being the following winners :—

Ladies : Miss Robins, Mrs May, Miss Grant, and Mrs White; men, Mrs Paterson, Mrs G. Williams, Mrs Nevin and Mr Patterson, first, second, third, and fourth respectively in both cases.

After presenting the prizes Mr V. J. Innes in the course of a short speech thanked those present for attending and for their support, and hoped that as a result of the pleasant effort the band’s finances would be such as to help build it up.

Supper, supplied by the ladies’ committee, was all that could be desired. What remained over was auctioned by Mr A. M. Laird for the band funds, and quite an appreciable little sum was netted.
