PADDY’S MARKET.
HIKUTAIA AFFAIR. A GREAT SUCCESS. The Paddy’s Market held iri the Hikutaia Hall on Thursday evening last for the purpose of augmenting the funds of the Hikutaia Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club was a great success, financially and otherwise, it being estimated that the profits will be in the vicinity of £7O to £75. The hall was tastefully decorated and the stalls attractively arranged. Before declaring the market open for business Mr E. Elliot, president of the Alley Memorial Park, thanked all those who had given so freely towards stocking the bazaar. He also extended a hearty invitation to all and sundry to join up with the various sporting bodies and take advantage of the excellent facilities which were afforded for recreation through having such a beautiful park. The following stalls were organised : Cream and sweet stall, tennis ladies; cake stall, Mesdames E. Elliot and J. Murdock ; fancy stall, Mesdames A. Gubb, A. Robinson, and E. Turner; produce stall, Mesdames W. K. Morrison, W. H. Alley, and G. Avery; flower stall, Mrs A. Alley ; meat stall, Mr W. H. Alley ; afternoon tea and supper, Mesdames T. Revell, I. M. Robinson and Jeff Murdock. Following are the results of the art union competitions : Bridal doll, prettily dressed by Miss M. Ellis, winning number 136, Mr J. Barrett, Paeroa; art needle-worked cushion, No. 110, M. Enrich ; table centre, No. 32, V. Young; art needle-worked suppercloth, No. 5, J Walls, Paeroa ; Needleworked tray-cloth, H. Valentine, Wharepoa. The cooking competitions resulted : Boys: H. Robinson, 1; girls, P. Quayle and E. Gubb, 1. Other competition winners were : Box of chocolates, Eunice Miller ; long ladder, I. M. Robinson ; iced eake (donated by C. Rehm), J. Prendiville ; Mrs A. Vowles’ iced cake, A. Lang ; pen pencilled cushion cover, E. Le Pettit, Wharepna ; black velvet worked cushion (donated by Elva Gubb), Mrs J. Tompkins ; dinner, Mr J. McKenzie ; bowlers’ iced cake, E. Turner ; necdle-wurked d’oyley, No. 7, Mr Morten, Maratoto.
The president, Mr E. Elliot, the secretary, Mr I. M. Robinson, and the treasurer, Mr H. Valentine, along with their team of willing workers are to he congratulated on the excellent manner in which they conducted the Paddy’s Market, which was instrumental in bringing the whole bazaar to such a successful issue.
