HIKUTAIA. PERSONAL. Mrs B. Alley and children are spending a short holiday at Auckland. Mrs V. Young is spending a fortnight’s holiday with relations at Featherston. Mrs I. Murdock has left for Palmerston North, where she intends to spend a short holiday with friends. Miss Jean Revell has just returned from the Waikato. For some time past she has been suffering from illhealth, but is now very much better. Miss Revell is at present staying with Mr T. Hayes, of Thames. VALEDICTORY. On Friday afternoon last a farewell was tendered to Miss May Leece. who is leaving the teaching profession to be married at an early date. Miss Leece was the recipient of many handsome presents from the committee, teachers, and pupils attending the school Miss Joyce Alley, on behalf of the pupils, in an appropriate speech expressed regret at Miss Leece’s departure from Hikutaia. Miss Myrtle Alley, in making the presentation, also spoke in eulogistic terms of the high esteem in which Miss Leece was held by all who knew her. At the conclusion of the presentation Miss Leece was entertained to afternoon tea by the staff. NGATEA. TENNIS CLUB’S DANCE. Lancers and barn dances proved very popular at the first of the Ngatea Tennis Club’s weekly socials last Saturday evening, when there was a fair attendance of dancers and card players in the Ngatea Hall. The music was by the Ngatea Orchestra and, the euchre tournament was won by Mrs Bertelsen and Mr H. Harper, while Mrs S. Coppins and Mr J. Mclntosh secured the consolation prizes Mr arid Mrs L. Cotter won the Monte Carlo waltz. I KEBEPEEHL SETTLEMENT ON ISLAND BLOCK The nine settlers who were removed from Kaihere to the Kerepeehi block recently are now becoming established. Most of them have built houses, and this season eight of them will be milking. The Kerepeehi cream cartage contract has been extended to pick up their cream, and the Power Board is now extending its mains to supply power for milking. In accordance with the decree of the Government all the milking-sheds have been made up to the specifications now required for all new sheds.
