OBITUARY.

MRS. J. VUGLAR. With the death of Mrs J. Vuglar at Auckland, at the age of 76, the passing of another old and highly respected late resident of Paeroa is to be re gretfully recorded. Mrs Vuglar was born near Belfast, Northern Ireland, the daughter < f Mr and Mrs S. Thoms. As an infant she was taken by hei' parents to India, and later, when’ she was about five years of age, brought to New Zealand by them. Her father, a gallant soldier, served in the Indian Mutiny and at the memorable-Gate Pah, retiring the possessor of several medals for bravery in action. At the age of 17 Mrs Vuglar married the late Mr J. Vuglar, in 1870, at Otahuhu, and lived there for some years, later removing to Thames and Te Aroha and eventually settling at Paeroa some 45 years ago. Mr Vuglar predeceased his wife by 16 years. Mrs Vuglar was a great supporter of the Methodist Church, and at the same time was a friend to all'creeds and ages, loving especially to have young children round her. She was very fond of music her daughters, Ivy and Ruth in particular, being exceptionally good pianists. Four daughters in all were organists from time to time at the Paeroa Methodist Church. There are four sons and three daughters, 30 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren to mourn her loss. Of the first-mentioned there are Messrs W Vuglar, Grange Road, Mt. Eden, J. Vuglar, headmaster, Ellerslie High Schi-01, E. Vuglar, Petone, and T. P. Vuglar, Paeroa ; and Mesdames A. Macgregor, Stanley Bay, H. Rusden, Auckland, and N. A. Edgar, St. Helier’s Bay. Mrs A. F. (Ruth) Smith, of Manchester, died last year, Mrs Vuglar’s eldest daughter, Celie. 30 years ago, a son, George, four yeai's ago, and Herbert in infancy.
