THIRD PARTY RISKS.

CORRECTING AN ANOMALY. MOTOR COACHES FOR HIRE. Certain amendments are tp. be made to the regulations under the Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risks) Act. The discovery has been made that motor-coaches (motor vehicles, used for. the carriage of passengers) not constructed for the purpose are plying in certain districts in conipetition with motor-omnibuses, which are specially designed for, the carriage of passengers. The premium on the former type of vehicle is only £3, whereas that for the . latter type is £l2 upwards. An Ordcr-in-Council has been passed amending the regulations to provide that the former type of vehicle pays at the same rate as the omnibus, according to the seating capacity. If, however, motor-coaches or any other type of motor vehicle are used in the carriage of school children, picnic parties, sports clubs, etc., and are never available for passenger hire by the general public, a premium of £3 is fixed for vehicles up to ten seats capacity, with an additional 5s for every seat over that number. In the computation of the number of seats the driver’s seat is not included, and if here are no divisions between the seats 16 inches is allowed for each passenger.
