Mr J. W. Cocks, of Paeroa, has been appointed town clerk and treasurer to the Birkenhead Borough Council. There were 54 applicants. Mr Cocks was town clerk of Dargaville from 1915 to 1920, and town clerk of Cambridge from 1920 to 1923. He will commence his new duties on June 4. Mr W. Barlow, who has been inspector • on the Thames-Rotorua-Frankton section of the N.Z. Railways for many years, has retired on superannuation. Mr G. C. Foster, of Auckland, is Mr Barlow’s successor on the section.
