EAST FOOTBALL CLUB.
SOCIAL FUNCTION. PRESENTATIONS MADE. On Saturday evening a pleasant social function was held by the East Rugby Football Club at which Mr K. Slyfield presided. During the evening Mr W. Moore, on behalf of the players and members of the club, presented Mr C. Vincent with a handsome set of brushes in recognition of his services to the club during the time he was secretary. The speaker, in eulogistic terms, expressed the appreciation of the club for the work Mr Vincent had done, and voiced the feelings of the members in a wish that he would continue to take the active interest in the club he had in the past. Mr Moore then presented to Mr J. Douglas, a junior player and representative who has received notice of his immediate transfer to Auckland, a silver cigarette case as a reminder to him of his club mates’ esteem. The secretary of the West Club, Mr D. Fraser, congratulated the East Club on the success of the evening, and extended the best wishes of his club to Messrs Vincent and Douglas. The recipients suitably responded. The toast-list, a lengthy one, included : “Paeroa Rugby Union,” “Referees,” “East Football Club,” “West Football Club,” “Pirates Rootball Club,” “Mr W. Moore,” “Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade,” and the guests of the evening, Messrs Vincent and Douglas. The gathering expressed appreciation of Mr and Mrs H. Robinson, the hosts of the evening, on the repast provided. The success of the evening was in no small manner due to items rendered by Messrs Page, Keighley, Treanor, Fraser, and Knight.
