A good story comes from the upper reaches of the Piako River where, prior to the opening of the duckshooting season, a sportsman had built himself a 100 at one of the few good spots overlooking the only place where'-ducks settled in numbers. On the morning of May 1 he arrived to find his 100 occupied and many birds falling to the gun of the occupant. Later he paid another visit, and producing his own shooting license, asked to see the license, of the usurper. This the latter was unable to do, and pleaded that he must have left it at home. When roundly abused for shooting without a license and for appropriating the 100 he left with the purpose of., producing his license. Game improves when hung awhile, but ducks won’t keep so very long. The unlicensed shooter has not yet returned and now the 100 is empty.
