COUNTY ELECTIONS.
» -r OHINEMURI NOMINATIONS. POSITION IN RIDINGS. The time limit for nominations to the Ohinemuri County Council having passed, it is evident that keen and interesting elections will take place for the two Paeroa riding seats, and, further from home, the Waitekauri and Waihi ridings, which return one member each. In the other districts the number of candidates did not exceed the number required, and the following have been automatically elected unopposed : Karangahake, J. B. Morris ; Maiigaiti, Charles E. Mace ; Waikino, Colin Mason ; Kaimanawa, Robert R. Morrison and Arthur R. Robinson. For the Paeroa Tiding the original nominations received were Messrs Thomas A. Barrett, James, T. Brown, W. F. Johnstone, and H. Poland ; but since then Mr Poland has withdrawn his name, which reduces the election to a three-cornered fight for two seats. Messrs Otto Bjerring and William G. Thornton oppose each other in the Waitekauri riding, while Messrs Albert H. Blackmore and George Hoye are opponents for the Waihi riding seat. An election wilb also be necessary for the Thames Hospital Board, the names of Messrs William C. Kennedy, Arthur R. Robinson, and Leonard Roberts having been submitted for the two seats. Through, a typographical error Mr Roberts’ name was left out of the advertisement in Monday’s issue of the “Gazette. No election will be held for the Thames Harbour Board (two vacancies) or the Thames Valley Electric Power Board (one vacancy), as Messrs Charles W. Harris and Samuel J. Laughlin, and Herbert M. Corbett have been returned unopposed to the respective positions. HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY. As Mr H. Dent has retired from the election for the office of councillor for the Ngatea riding an election will not be necessary there, the only other nomination being that of Mr J. Motion, who is therefore elected unopposed. Voting will take place on Wednesday next, the Bth inst., for the election of councillors, and another matter to be decided at the same poll is the proposal to adopt within'the county the system of rating on the unimproved value."
