ST. MARY’S CHURCH.
MARIST MISSION. On Sunday morning last the Hey. Father Spillane, S.M., of. the Marist •Missioners of New Zealand and Australia, opened a mission at the Catholic. Church, Paqroa. Since that time large crowds have been attending the exercises] of the mission both morning and evening. Last evening the devotions were in honour of the’Blessed Virgin Mary. The; sermon was chi the Reasonableness of this Devotion. Catholics do not. worship Mary with the same form of worship as that given to God. They adore Qod, they venerate the Madonna as the greatest of God’s creatures. Tjiey honour her, with a special kind of revereuca, for, this is due to her as the Mother 'of Jesus Christ., .who is truly God. After the sc. mom thq whole parish was consecrated to thej Blessed Virgin Mary, ’neath the standard of Christ the King. To-night the sermon will concern the central act of Catholic worship, the Holy Mass. . ,The second great solemnity will take place at 7.30 on Thursday evening. There will be a special discourse on Catholic. Doctrine of the Eucharist, and, if the weather, permits, the ceremonies will coii 'lude with an omenair procession of thq Blessed Sacrament and Benediction in thej church, grounds. The parish priest, the Rev. Father Taylor, cordially invites nan-Catholics to attend the mission if they so deside.
