PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE.
PRESENTATION TO DR. SMITH. 29 YEARS’ GOLD BAR. A special gathering of the Paeroa Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night after the conclusion of the general meeting to do honour to Dr. G. T. Smith, Iron, surgeon to the brigade, on the presentation to him of the» United Fire Brigades’ Association’s gold bar representing 29 years’ service in thq brigade. Dr. Smith is the third doctor in New Zealand to receive the honour. Superintendent Moore, in making tlie presentation, spoke; in eulogjstic tqrms of Dr. Smith’s services to the brigade, and hoped that they would both be spared many more years, so that ho would ha.ve the pleasure of presenting the recipient with many more bars.
Enthusiastic cheers greeted Dr. Smith, who said that it seemed to him as though bp were developing a habit of periodically appearing there to 1 receive. something, in connection with lire? brigade service. As boh. surgeon to. the brigade he had the greatest admiration for the firemen in their attention to public duty, and in giving up their time voluntarily for the service of the public. He was of. t'i'e opinion that both he and SupqruJ.-> trident Meort" would be able to put up another 29 years of service. At the conclusion of a very pleasant function Superintendent Moore called his son, Fireman H. MPbre, and on behalf of the brigade presented to him a framed certificate representing three years’ service. Fireman Moore, in replying, said that that was a start, and he hoped he would 'havq many years in the brigade.
