SCHOOL SWIMMING.
HERBERT SMITH TRUST CUPS.
CERTIFICATES GAINED BY PUPILS
The swimming competitions for the Heibert Smith Trust Cups conducted by the teachers of the; Paeroa, District High School have been completed'. The honours for the high school boys’ 33 l-3yds, and also the ICOyds, went to V. Nicholls, and for the girls’ 33 l-3yds and 100yds to Alisch Barclay. In the primary boys’ 33 l-3yds and 100yds Major Chamberlain secured most points, and in thk contest for the girls over the same distances Dulcie Simmonds, won both events and carried off the cup.
The cups are to be engraved, andi will be presented on a suitable occasion. In deciding the winners points wei<; given for swimming certificates gained. It is, pleasing to note that a total of 97 swimming certificates issued by the N.Z. Amateur Swimming Association have been awarded to pupils of the school. These comprised 52 f»r the 50yds learner’s certificate, 34 for the 220yds, and 11 for the 880yds. Some of those who Qualified for the 220yds certificate, were flrst-year swimmers, which speaks well for the voluntary tuition they have receivedThe results of the various races for the Herbert Smith Trust Cups were as follows,;—
