THE PAEROA CEMETERY.
SHOCKING STATE OF NEGLECT. A COMMITTEE SUGGESTED. At the meeting of the Qhinemuri County (Jouncil yesterdays iqtterwas lead from the Rev. Father Taylor, Paeroa, pointing, out the shocking state of neglect of the cemetery. The writer stated that hq had placed a man on the Roman Catholic portion to clear it, and his parishioners were aiding by making subscriptions. Taking the whole of the cemetery into consideration, he offered the suggestion that, a committee representing the var'ous religious bodies, County Council, Borough Council, and Beautifying Society should be appointed to keep the place in a condition worthy of a Christian community.
The chairman agreed with Father Taylor on the bad state of the cemetery. He had noted it himself only a couple of days previously. The council bad already done all in its power with the funds available, the present cemetery account credit being only £l- - upkeep the council was probably the least responsible body*, the people themselves being more concerned. However, he was in complete accord with Fatliqr Taylor’s suggestion, and the council would contribute to the controlling body as far as its funds would permit. All support was due to the proposal, as it was the only possible practical solution. Cr. Mason said that high commendation was, due to Father Taylor for what he had already done. The whole council approving without. dissent, the mattey was left to Cr. Corbett to confer with the Mayor of Paeroa, with a view to forming the committee suggested, probably under the chairmanship of the Mayor, a procedure that was usual in such affairs.
