PATETONGA ROADING.
DELAY IN COMMENCEMENT. SETTLERS CONCERNED. Settlers of Patqtonga are becoming, Concerned! at the delay .in the start of the metaalling of the roads of their district, and fears are expressed that, the Mbryinsville road will not be done before work is stopped for the; winter. The contract provided that, the threemile section between the corner store and the county boundary where the Piako County’s metalled road cemmence's was to have the first course of metal laid within three mo,ntns of signing, but. so far tile contractor has not obtained a stone"crusher. The Lands Department is proceeding with its work of forming the road and providing. clay for the haunching, but with the continued) dry weather ami the great increase in traffic, the; road has been pounded into dusk so that if the metalling is not completed t'-e road will be in a worse state next winter than ever before. The contractor has the; quarry opened ready to ; commence crushing.
