Te Aroha, at Hikutaia ; March 9, Thames v. Te Aroha, at Thames, and Paeroa v. Netherton, at Netherton. LAIDLAW CUP FINAL. NARROW WIN FOR NGATEA. Very interesting tennis was, witnessed by a large number of spectators at the; Ngatea Club’s courts on Saturday last, when in the final of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association’s A B r ade inter-club competition for the Laidlaw Cup the Ngatea club’s team secured a win. by seven sets to six from the Turua club’s team. The match was one of the most evenly contested this season, for at no stage was either team more than a fq w games ahead, and at the end the Ngatea team only led) by three the totals be;ing 89 and 86. The Turua club has won this competition so often .that it has won the first Laidlaw Cup outright, and was expected to add the second Laidlaw Cup t.o its collection. The Ngatea club’s win will therefore add interest to the; competition in future years. Following ar;e the details; of the games, Ngatea names being, mentioned first:— Men’s Singles.—S. Men’s Doubles.—S. ajidl EL Coppins beat Robinson and Miller, 9 —B ; Morgan and Cotter be;at McConnell and Griffiths, 9—4 ; Alexander and Ludlow lost to Shepherd and Scott, 6—9. Ladies’ Doubles. —Mrs Reed and Mrs Bertelsen lost to Mr,s Clotworthy and •Miss Griffiths, 6 —7; Mrs Jackson and Mrs Cotter beat Miss Dixon and Mrs Scott, 7—2.
Combined Doubles. —Alexander and Mrs Jackson beat Shepherd and Miss Dixon, 7 —4 ; Ludlow and Mrs Cotter lost to Sc.ott and Mr,s Scott, 4-—7.
