OBITUARY.

MRS. A. F. SMITH. Word was received in Paeroa yesterday that Mrs Smith, wife of the Rev. A. F. Smith, had died in England on November 28 last. The late Mrs Smith was the second daughter, of. Mrs John Vuglar, of Auckland, and the late Mr John Vuglar, of Paeroa, and sister to Mr T 1 P. Vuglar, also 1 of Paer.ca. spent her childhood days in Paeroa, and showed marked ability as a musician. At the age of ability as a musician. She was an accomplished pianiste, and an associate off the Royal College of Music, and was a great asset in the social aCtivities of the church. At the age of fourteen years she was organist at both the Anglican and .Methodist churches, had over 30 pupils, and took a leading part in musical matters. Miss Ruth Vuglar, as she was then, was an exceedingly popular young lady, and was loved by a large circle of friends. Later she married the Rev. A- F. Smith, who was vicar of St. Paul’s parish. From Paeroa they went to Waitotara, near Wanganui, and later to New Plymouth and Northcote. In 1913 they le£t for a tour of the world, and shortly after, returning they again left for England, where the Rev. Smith was appointed vicar to St. Bride’s Rectory, Manchester, which position he ’held from 1917 to 1927. They then removed to Tothill Rectory, Alford, in Lincolnshire, where Mrs Smith passed away. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and two daughters, ope of whom is married to Mr E. S. Wa,tson, Achimota College, Accra, -Gold Coast, West Africa. Fortunately, Mrs Watson was in Elngland with Mr, Watson; who was on leave, at the time of her mother’s death.
