SWIMMING BATHS.

SEATS TO BE ERECTED. OPEN THREE NIGHTS PER WEEK. At Thursday nights meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council Cr. Silcoc.k, chairman of the baths co&umittee, said) that on Tuesday night he had, interviewed the president of the Swimming Club with reference to the erection of seats at the; baths, and also having Thursday night an onen night. He advocated 'Opening on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights, and thought that the baths cwld be washed out on Monday instead of Friday. This would allow the baths, .to be open on Friday nights. He; had received a favourable reply from the club as follows :—

“In response to our conversation this morning with reference to the baths, I have conferred with a number of my committee and am delegated to state that the club will definitely undertake the erection of the seats and also contribute a small amount or cash if it is. found to be necopsary. We could not, however, offer you more than ten per cent., of carnival gate receipts. The; club would) be willing to put on a carnival for the purpose of defraying any expenses for timber above the £lO the Borough Council is prepared to expend. With reference to foregoing the baths on Thursday nights, my committee is willing to acquiesce in this matter during t|he hot weather.—W. D. Nicholas, president.”

Thq Mayor said that the public should, be c.onsidtered, especially this hot weather, and he was pleased with the attitude of the; swimming, club. He congratulated the club on its sporting offer to erect the seats. Under t'hesq conditions he thought that the Offer, of 10 per cent, of the club’s gate for carnivals was quite all right, at leastfor this year.

The .report as presented by Mr Sil c.ock was adopted.
