On account of the racejs, at Thames to-mornow the Hauraki Plains cricket matches have been postponed. The tennis competitions, are due to recommence on Saturday, 19th inst.
A pearl necklet that is acclaimed the finest eve;r put together, was recently threaded in New York. It consists of 59 pink pearls, and the value set on it is something like £250,000. Most o.f the pearls came frbm the Persian Gulf, and many came through underground, sourc.es, smuggled through the hand of Russian and Persian traders. The gem merchants who threaded the pejarls, admitted that it had taken them 20 yeprs to complete the collection. They should be fully compensated if they get a quarter of a million for the string.
