BRISK CATTLE SALES!
PAEROA AND NGATEA.
Although stock sales held during January are usually dull, the sales conducted by the N. Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co,, Ltd., at Ngatea and at Paeroa this .week dr,ew heavy yardingc, and export buyers had to pay vqry keen prices for all classes of cattle. Practically a full clearance was. effected at both places under the hammer, and the cattle remaining were sold by treaty. Dairy cattle were also in unusually k'e|pn demand for this tilme of tihe year, pos-; sibly on account of the prices prevailing, for cull cows encouraging farmers tp replace their poor milkers with better cows.
Cattle, —Fat cows realised from £7 'to £9 10s,; fleshy cows from £5 10s, to. £7 ; boners, from £4 10s to £6 10s. Young dairy cattle were keenly sought after, especially in-calf heifers, which brought up to £6 10s. Dairy cows, ranged from £8 10s to £lO 10s, inferior, from £6 ,10s to £8 ; bulls for export £6 10s to £lO 12s 6d; line of 2-yea.r to 3-y W-old steers £8 to £9 17s 6d; 2%-year Jersey steers. £7 55,. Store pigs wer.e in very keen demand, the snupply being much below the demand. Slips sold at 19s, and good porkers from £1 7s, to £1 15s.
