HAURAKI WEST BOARD. PROGRAMME OF WORKS. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Boar.d met at Ngatea on. Monday, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs T. A. McClean, A. Douglas, J. Motion, A. H. McClean, and the clerk (Mr E. L. Walton). HOPAI DRAINAGE, Messrs D. A. Waite, L. M. Mui.ray, M. Williams, and.F. H'. Brocklehurst, of Hopai Road, wrote drawing atten-> tion to the inefficient drainage of their area. All low parts of their farms were inundated when the outlet drain filled with the closing of the flood-gates. Mr. Motion qaid that it would be advisable to find o.ut what the Lands Drainage Department proposed to dh to cut off the water from th,© back country. At the present time there was very little freeboard in the drain. If the department’s work would not become effective before winter, the question of erecting a stop-bank along Pouarua Road should be considered. The chairman mentioned that the settlers were aiming at getting a pump. It was decided to notify the settlers that the board l was negotiating with the Lands Drainage Department relative to keeping water, from its, area from reaching the board’s area, and was taking sfeps to. have obstructions removed from drains!, and R was hoped that this, with the; additional flood-gate, would provide a measure of relief when the work was completed. GENERAL RATES. The resolution striking the uniform general rate of in the £ on the unimproved value for the period from June 1 to March 31, 1929, was carriedACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £25 9s 6d were passed for payment. IMPROVEMENT WORKS. It was decided that tenders be called for deepening the following drains on sanctibn being obtained from the lands drainage engineer :— Settlers’, 116 chains ; Hopai Road North, 25 c,hains ( , 10 chains to be battered as well; Hopai Road South, 130 chains; Rawerawe North, 76 chains ; Rawerawe South, 76 chains, also re-, moving slips ; Davidson’s, 107 chains ; Rawerawe River Road, 30 chains; Paul’s, 48 chains ; Island Block, 140 chains ; phillilps, 40 chains, also battering ; Marshall’s,, 40 chains ; Moehau Road, 50 chains; and Centre drain, 100 chains. OBSTRUCTIONS IN DRAINS. It was decided that notice be served under section 62 of the Lands Drainage Act on a number of. distrjlcfc settlers whose trees or elaeagnus hedges were causing obstruction to drains, thereby causing damage to other land by flooding.
