A mystery comedy-drama depicting the personalities and technique; qf a gang of circus side-show crooks, who employ spiritualistic tricks in locating loot in a small Southern village, is the gist of “A Thief ,i,n the Dark.’ In contrast tq.the garish environment uf the gangsters is the palatial old mansion, where an attempted robbery results in t’he murder of the eccentric owner. The manse house is filled with secret passageways, “ghosts,’’ and sliding panels. There is a strong love story between a beautiful daughter of the Old Squth and an engaging young circus c.rook whom she regenerates.
