Ivan Sokolic, the; Dalmation who attacked Mr J. Brenan in the Paeroa Domain on Monday, Nqvember 26, appeared before the Police Court on Monday morning, and on the application of the pqlice was remanded for. qight days, during which time he will be confined in .the Auckland Gaol and kept under medical observation. An application for bail was refused owing, to the seriousness of the offence and the fac.t that Sokolic would be in danger c;f assault if left at large.
Vital'statistics for Paeroa for November are as follows, with the figures for. the corresponding period last year in parentheses : Births, 4 (9) ; marriages, 1 (1) ; deaths, 3 (0).
■ At a meeting, ’held yesterday, of the Waikato Presbytery, which extends from Cape Colville to Taumarunui and from Rotorua tc; Raglap, the RevJ. Lowden, of Paeroa, was elected Moderator.
The annual report cf the National Tobacco Company shows net profits amounting to £38,057, after deducting all charges and allowing the sum of £11,300 for income tax. The dividend proposed is 15 per cent.
At the Magistrate’s Court at Paeroa on Monday a young married man was charged with committing indecent acts at Mackaytown c ; n two occasions. He elected to be dqalt with summarily, and pleaded not guilty. After hearing the evidence the magistrate, Mr F. W. Platts, dismissed the case.
Mr McWilliams, wireless operator of the Southern Cross, returns to Sydney by the Ulimaroa at the end* qf the month to join Kingsford Smith and Ulm and then prepare for the flight from Honolulu to San Franciscq The Union Steamship Company has granted Mr McWilliams extended leave for as long as necessary.

Stonell, £46 17s 6d, costs £2 Ils 6d; Paeroa Borough Cquncil v. Smiler, Himana, £2 2s, c.osts £1 7s 6d ; E. Powell v. W. Andqrson, £1 9s 2d, costs 12s ; R. I. Wells v. J. R. Goqnan, £1 3s sd, costs 14s ; Brenan and Co., v. J. Urqu'hard and Son, £l2 7s Bd, costs £2 16s ; P; Williams and Co., Ltd., v. W. Smith, £3 4s, costs £1 3s 6d.
Sydney Andrew Scott, an employee at the Horotiu Freezing Works, was charged at the Police Court at Ngaruawahia on Monday with assaulting his son, aged seven years, on Saturday last. He was ccnvipcted and sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment.
An - innovation has been made at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Hamilton. Commencing last Sunday, the offertory plate has been dene, away with, and offertories are now made tihreugh the duplex envelope system. The innovation has met with a certain amount of opposition, blit the consensus qf opinion is that it will prove more satisfactory than the old system of passing mund the plate. Other churches are watching the experiment with interest.
