FAREWELL DANCE.

MR. JU POLAND ENTERTAINED.

Last evening the friends- of Mr •Mervyn (Sport) Poland entertained him at a farewell (Jance in the Soldiers’ Club, and a very pleasant time was spent.

During the evening Mr A- F. SteecP man, in making a presentation, said that whoever had given Mr Poland the nickname of “Sport” had given him a very suitable one, as he was a sport in every sense elf the word. Paeroa could ill-affqrd to lose a young man of such sterling calibre as Mervyn, and having been • associated with him in his work he (Mr Steedman) knew the true character of their guest. Everyone, especially h’s brother officers in the bank, was sorry he was leaving Paerqa, but all knew that it meant promotion and widen experience. In presenting Mr Poland with a leather suit-case, given by all present, Mr Steedman said) that it was a gift which carried with it the goodwill of all Mervyn’s friends, and he had no doubt that he would pack it often tc ; 'come back and visit the friends whom he would leave behind him i,n Paeroa. Mr Steedman then called for three cheers for Mr Poland, which were iheartijv given. In replying Mr Poland said he was sorry to leave Paeroa, as he knew nearly everyqne and had always been on the best of terms with all. He hoped that his successor would be treated as well as he had been treated by the public of Paeroa. Had he known before that Mr Steedman thought so much qf’ him he would have asked for a rise long ago. Mr Poland then thanked everyone for the present which 'he had received, and said he would most certainly pack often to come back to Paeroa.
