PAEROA DOMAIN.

A PICTURESQUE SPOT. IMPROVING THE BOWLING GREEN. A stroll round the Paeroa Domain at the present time is quite a charming exercise. Everything looks fresh and green ; but those who have previously taken advantage of this pleasant promenade cannot help noticing the absence; of the homeiysuckle and rose hedge around the bowling green. On the advice ©f an expert this beputiful border to the green has been cut down, thus exposing, the ground to wind and restricting a certain amount of shelter for the players who. hitherto sat under the luxurious branches of roses and foliage awaiting their “turn.”

The green has been wejl forked by quite a number of enthusiasts, and has been top-dressed with pumice soil. All admirers of the popular game <)f bowls are plepsed with the result, which will be more conspicuous next season. ■

The keeping of the green and the adjacent grounds of the domain entais a deal of labour,, and to, lessen, this in some degree the Domain BoaTa proposes purchasing a motor machine for cutting the, lawns. With the present hand device it is estimated that the care*aker travels at lea,st four miles each time hie gfles over the g.rcund. Te Aroha and many other places use motor power to do this work, am] why not Paeroa ? It has often been remarked by visiting bowl•er# that the Paeroa green compares fayourbly with most greens in the province, ami as the domain ‘qach year is becoming more interesting, picturesque, and attractive, it is hoped the board will not be too sparing in dealing out sufficient assistance to maintain the reputation so far enjoyed.
