PAEROA CRICKET CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETINB. Tile Paeroa Cricket Club held its annual meeting in Mr W. Bain’s 100 ms last night, Mr P. Meacham, in the absence; °f the president, presiding. The report was presented as follows :— "The membership for the past season numbered 34, an increase of 6 on the previous season. For the first time on recqrd Paeyoa, fieided two senior teams in the Piakoj Cricket Association’s competition, apd. although none of the teams won the cup we had the satisfaction of capturing the Bowler Shield in the kno«ck-out competition. We had, also for the first time; on record', two Aucklanjd senior teams in Paeioa, .and although we were defeated we were by no means disgraced. Special thanks are dhe tq our. president, Mr H. E. Butler, and the ladies who, entertained our visitors in such a splendid manner; also to Miss Butler for her kindly assistance ip secretarial work. Thanks are due to the Paeroa, Domain Boprd for allowing us to put downj a concrete pitch, and we now have ohe of tli'c finest cricket grounds in the district. “Fielding.—The fielding was in most instances of a high Cirder. and to this department, assisted by the good bawling, we can attribute those successes which we had. “Bqwling.—Paeroa’s bowling waa not sq good as ini previous years, although it was very good Ojji many occasion®. F. Dare, t. Edwards, F. Knight, F. Ball, and W. Flower all did Splendidly with the ball in different games during the season. “Batting,—special mention must be made qf G. Stack, who had the splendid batting average of 52.5, and who wo;n the gold medal for the highest average in Other batsmen worthy of mention) were G. Sale, W. Flower, F. Knight, J. Fox, an.d W. Lawrence, who c,ame to light on several occasions and .wa® the most improved player in thie.team. “General.—The thanks of the club are due; to our president and vicepresidents, who materially assisted' us, and also to the Hauraki Plains Gazette for publishing full reports helping us to boom the game The balance-sheet showed that there was a deficiency ’of about £9 on, the year’s working. This was due to the entertaining of the visiting teams from Auckland. • The report and balance-sheet was adopted.
SECRETARYSHIP. Mr H. Tams, who has held the position of secretary fo.r four years, tendered his resignation qn account of his work taking him out of Paeroa. Regret was expressed at Mr Tams’ resignation, anff a.resolution pla.cing Q.n record the good werk: he had done for cricket was carried by acclamation!. -OFFICERS. Barrett; hqn. secretary, Mr P. fj. Mtejachem ; committee, Messi’s F. Knight, C. Rolton, and W. Taylor; local committee, Messrs F. Knight, H. Tgms, aitf W. Taylor.; club captain, G. Stack. The subscriptions were fixed at Ills for seniors and 5s for junior players. OPENING OF ; SEASON. The season opens, ,with a game against Te Aroha at Te. Aroha to-' morrow, the team beiiag selected from the following :—. Stack, Meacham. TaySor, McQiiilliam, Tanis, Roil tom, Sanderson, Fox, Jenkinson, Mayo, ISdwards, Howard, Dale; Reverts, Nichols.
