THE TASMAN FLIGHT.
POSTPONEMENT POSSIBLE. ILLNESS OF THE LEADER. CHRISTCHURCH, July 17. There is a possibility that the flight of the Southern Cross to Neiw Zealand may not take place as arranged, according to an announcement from a. Sydney radio station which was heard, by a Christchurch listener, this afternoon. The announcer stated that Squadron-Leaden KingsfondSmith, the leader of the flie.rs, was ill, and had been taken to hospital. No indication of the nature of the illness was given, so that it is not known, how long the airman may have to stay in hospital, TRIP TO PERTH MOOTED. DISTANCE OF 2000 MILES. SYDNEY, July 17. Squadron-Leafler. C. KingsfordSmith announces that he is considering, making a flight from Sydney to Perth prioi‘ to commencing the flight to New Zealand. . If the journey to Perth is undertaken it will be> a nonstop flight of 2000 miles, and will demonstrate that the flight from America was not a fluke.
