COUNTY AMALGAMATION.

MATTER FOR DISCUSSION. ASSOCIATION’S ATTITUDE. The question of the amalgamation of tlie Ohinemuri, Thames, and Coromandel counties is to be discussed at a conference of delegates representing counties affiliated to the Rural Counties’ Association to be at ton on June 21. x ” A letter received from x the associaton by the Ohinemuri County Council at its meeting yesterday setting out some of the matters for discussion contained the following paragraph dealing with the amalgamation of counties:— “So many M'nisterjal and other references to the necessity for amalgamation of counties have been made recently that it --seems desirable to discuss the matter and give public expression to the county point of view. There appears to be imminent danger of the introduction of legislation pompted by Government departments and ethers who. through lacking intimate knowledge of the subject, have unbounded confidence in their own ability to reorganise the local government of the country.” In the opinion of Cr. A. R. Robinson the conference would be an im. portant one, ami of far-reach’ng effect. After a brief discussion the chairman (Cr. H. M. Corbett) and Cr. W. F. Johnstone were appointed to attend. )
