SUSPICIONS OF A HOAX.
MR. A. WEST’S QUEST. SON REPORTED FOUND. The following cable from Melbourne is being published in the metropolitan dailies :— “Andrew West, aged 70, l,eft New Zealand for Australia recently to resume a -nine-years.’ search for his ; son Percival.
“Information reached the father from George Emery, of the Grand Hotel, Mornington, that Percival had been, employed by him for the last seven years, and the father and spn have been reunited.”
This message (says the; Morrinsville Star), though it may have some foundation on fact, is regarded with suspicion by Mr West’s, family, who have received ho word of the reported finding of Percival .West and are inclined tq consider it a hoax. Furthermore, as Mr West senior di<l not leave New Zealand until 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon by the Aorangi, the reference to father and son being reunited obviously cannot be correct. According to the family, Mr West read the newspapers reporting his alleged meeting with hi& son before he l,eft for Sydney.
