OBITUARY.
MRS. ALICE L. ALLEN. There passed away at the residence of her. daughter, Mrs E. P. Fathers. Old Te Aroha, Road, Paeroa, on Monday night, another of the fast-dimin-ishing band of early colonists in the person of Mrs Alice Lucy Allen. Deceased was born at Poole, South of. England, eighty-two years ago, and arrived at the during the ye.ar 1868. After holding an appointment as governess to the children of Sir Julius Vogel—then Premier of New' Zealand—for. five years, deceased married Mr Robert Al',eiii u.t Christchurch, and shared with hiin the many and varied experiences qf the early i n Canterbury. Her hus/band predeceased her about thirty years: ago. For the past six years Mrs Allen had been living ;a.t Paeroa, where she had made many friends. Four daughters and two sons are left to mourn their loss. The daughters are Mesdames E. p. Fathers (Paeroa). E. Amyes (Christchurch), A. Loose (Christchurch), and V. Boyle (Sydney),’ anil the sons are Messrs R. AJJen. and F. Allen, both of Christchurch.
Deceased 1 was interred at the; Pukerimu Cemetery, Paeroa, this afternoon, tlie Rev. YV. G. H. Weadon performing the last solemn rites.
