A DANGEROUS PRACTICE.
SHOOTING in the borough. CHILDREN’S NARROW ESCAPE. On Monday afternoon several children were, playing in the manuka on -thei technical, high school reserve off ’MiUei? Avenue when they narrowly escaped being shot. Even as ; it was, pellets from a shot-gun fejl quite close to them. The eldest child quickly made the presence-of the children known, and they managed to reach safe.ty with nothing wors|e than a scare. It appears that two youths;,, armed with a shet-gun, were looking fof .pheasants, it being generally known that there wer.e several in that locality. In an adjacent paddock a numbe.r of stock were grazing, and the firing caused them to sta, mpede. Apart from the. fuct that it is unlawful to discharge fire-arms in. the borough, the reserve referred to is a game sanctuary, and has be.e.n. for, some'years,
The two youths concerned have every reason to be thankful that the children were not hit, and just whet action is to be taken against thejn remains to be seen.
