The Mayor said that, unfortunately, it had been necessary to increase the ira.tes. The increase, was .mainly due to the additional levy madq by the Thames Hospital Board. Cr. Brenan said he considered that the finance committee had capably framed the estimates and had do’ne it s' best to keep the rates, down to a minimum. However, on principle, he wished to reiterate that in his opinion a rate should be struck for the council chambers loan. !
The Mayor replied that it was not intended to strikci that rate. The usual legal resolution agreeing to approve of the report and estimates and the striking of rates was moved by Cr. Flatt and carried.
