PRESENTATION.
/ MR. W. PURDIE HONOURED. FAREWELL AT BOWLING CLUB. During the afternoon tea adjournment at the Paeroa Bowling Club’s pavilioim on Saturday afternoon the opportunity was taken to formally farewell the club’s popular secretary, Mr W. Purdie, who is under transfer to the Auckland office of the Public Works. Department.
In calling upon Mr Purdie to accept a cheque as a slight token of the high esteem in which he is held, the president (Mr C. T. Mettam) said that during the four years that Mr Purdie had been secretary he had proved himself a c, apable, painstaking. and zealous officer. Nothing had been! too much trouble to him, and the members v’ewed his pending departure from. their midst with genuine regret. In addition to being an efficient secretary Mr Purdie. had proved himself to be one of the “crack” bowlers of the club, as, evidtehced by the fact that during his term he had won the, Goldfields championship, the club’s senior eha.mpio ; n,ship on two occasions, and had also skipped the winning team in the Brenan Memorial Shield competition on two occasions, and his ability as a bowler was, well-known fchrpugliout the goldfields. There were many friends who would wish him well and express regret at his departure. In conclusion the president congretuilated Mr Purdie on ‘ receiving promotion, and wished him Godspeed, continued success, an,d health and happiness in his new In acknowledging the eulogistic remarks accorded him, and also when thanking the members for their tangible expression o'f. goodwill! and appreciation, Mr Purdie sa’d that his duties as secretary had been made pleasurable by reason of the splendid preidsents. and' willing and helpful committees it had been his privilege to serve. Anything that he had been able to do for ti*e welfare of the club or members had been! a pleasure. True, he loved the good old game of bowls, and much of the credit for the successes he had gained was, due to the sporting players whoi had been in his team. It was with feelings of 'sincere, regret that he was leaving the club and so many fine sports, and he would look forward with keen anticipation to visiting Paeroa on some future occason andf take part in a rollup on the green. He wished the club good ’luck fop the future, anfi to the members he extended best wishes and expressed the< hope that they would all be spared to enjoy a great many more seasons 'of bowling.
