BOWLING.

PAEROA SEASON CLOSED.

FINAL OF PAIRS COMPETITION. The Paeroa Bowling Cl,ub brought its 1927-28 season to a formal close on- Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, and the green was in a satisfactory playing condition. There was a fair attendance of members, and a draw was made for rinks, those taking part spending an enjoyable afternoon’s roll-up. Considerable niterest was taken in the final game in the pairs competition, which was played between W. N. Chamberlain and M. H. Chamberlain (skip) and J. Morland and C. T. Mettam (skip). After an interesting contest Mettam ran out an easy winner! by ten points on the 20th heiad. At the conclusion of the afternoon’s play the president (Mr C. T. Mettam), in declaring the season closed, referred! to the enjoyable season that had been spent, and thanked the members for the way they had entered into the various competitions, and he wished to offer his hearty congratulations to the winners:. A special word of praise was due to the committee for. the ready assistance and' co-operation he had received during his term of office. The president also extended grateful thanks: to the ladies for the help given with the afternoon teas, and also for, the way they had' supported the night-play competitions. A work of special praise and thanks, was also due to the secretary (Mr W. Purdie), who had been a tower of strength to the club and had carried out his somewhat arduous duties, With credit and enthusiasm.

In conclusion the president reminded the- members that considerable alteration and improvement was going to be carried- out to the green, and he would be glad if the members would form a working bee on a day to be arranged and give a hand in carrying out a work of necessity, and! Of, such a nature that every player would enjoy the benefit next season.
