THE TURUA CLUB.

The Turua Rugby Football Club he>ld its annual general meeting on Wednesday evening, Mr T. H. White presiding over an attendance of forty players and supporters. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated that the past season was again a very successful one. The senior team had again won the inter,-club competition, and had also won the knock-out competition for the Dent Cup. Two junior teams were entered for the inter-club competitions, and while this probably cost the club the championship it resulted in a game being provided for many junior players. The financial position was not so satisfactory as in the previous year, th e credit balance decreasing from £3l 12s Hd to £27 12s 9d, and of this sum £l2 9s 6d represented donations from the public for improving the playing field on the public domain. If "this improvement scheme was not proceeded with the £l2 9s 6d would have to be returned. The club had snent £l6 2s 7d on the domain, £5 12s 6d on subsidising tlie transport of players, and £9 0s 6d on photographs, donated to the senior team, as requested by the donor of the Dent Cup. Subscriptions from players and vice-presidents Showed a substantial decrease. Attention, was drawn in the report to the alteration made by the Union in the club’s boundaries. These became operative this season unless rescinded.

The report concluded by expressing thanks to all who had assisted the club during the past season. The balance-sheet showed a turnover of £122 16s 4d. Mr W. Madgwick congratulated the secretary, Mr R. D. Macklow, on the clear and concise statement as con, 1 - tainedi in the report and balance-sheet. The only item he regretted was the intimation that Mr Macklow would not be again available for the secretaryship. He was very much afraid that the club would never get such a good secretary again. Mr Macklow said that what he had done he 'had done willingly, and the fact that the club had done so well was ample recompense. • 6n the motion of Mr C. Scptt Mr Macklow was ;made a life-member of tile club. OFFICERS. The following officers were elected : Patron, Mr G. E. Porteous (re-elect ed) ; president, Mr T. H. White (rer elected) ; executive committee, Messrs W.. Madgwick, J. Hamilton, W. Taylor, B. Tynan, F. Clotworthy, L. Young, and the officers; social committee, Messrs E. Hill, C. Blacklaws, F. The position of secretary was not filled. The annual subscription was fixed at ss, ais formerly. PHOTOGRAPH OF TEAM. A very fine enlargement of the photograph of the sen’or team has been, presented to the Club by Mr G. C. Best, photographer, paeroa, and it was decided to ask the Turua Hall Committee for permission to hang the photograph in the Town Hall. ALTERATION OF BOUNDARIES. The alterations in the club boundaries last season by the Rugby Union were explained by Mr W. Madgwick, the club’s delegate, and a resolution was carried urging the delegates to do their utmost to have the lost territory restored to the club. . When general business was called Mr B. Tynan suggested that an effort be made to form two senior-grade teams, on the Hauraki Plains, say, with the river as a boundary. If thd. other teams on the Plains were as weak as was thought it would be bad for football. Perhaps the two teams could play at Thames. Mr W. Madgwick supported the idea, but pointed out that it would be impossible to play at Thames. ■Mr K. Fox asked if something could not be done in regard to travelling to Patetonga. Past experience had shown that teams travelled to Patetonga but the visits were not returned or were returned by scratch teams. Mr Madgwick said that the position was difficult. The Union did not want to lose Patetonga, and an effort should be made to carry- on for another year or two, until the roadis were metalled.
