ANNUAL 'MEETINGS.
THE WEST CLUB.
The annual meeting of the West Football Club wa,s hdld in Bain’s Rooms last night, when Mr E. Edwards (president) presided over about twenty members. In taking the chair Mr Edwards expressed his thanks and appreciation to tlie club for the presentation of the enlarged photograph of the senior 1927 fifteen. He trusted that the club would again have a good season. REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET.
The report was as follows: —
“Once again the senior team won. the McCullay Shield, defeating Suburbs in the final game after a hard struggle, but was put out in the first round of the Drysdale Cup competition. The members of the senior team are to be commended for their keenness in turning out, making it unnecessary to call upon junior players. This enabled the juniors to field a strong team which had hard luck in being beaten by East in the final game. The third grade competition fell through owing to Jack of interest taken in the matches. “In all three grades it was noticeable that bhe majority of reprejSentative players chosen belonged to the West Club. A few players, have failed to pay their subscriptions, as they consider • themselves life honorary members. The big hit of the season was the trip of the seniors to Rotorua. Although only, a scratch team was taken, the playeijs put up a good showing and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The West senior team also drew with the City senior from Te Aroha. The juniors travelled to Waikino, but were narrowly defeated in an exciting match. “The annual social proved both a social and financial success. ' .
“The medal presented by Mr E. Edwards for the best senior back was won by R. Swann, and the cap presented by Mr C. 'Schultz for the most improved senior forward was Won by A. Mills. The members of the senior team presented Mr E. Edwards (president) and Mr H. Shand (vice-presi-dent) with a framed photograph of the 1927 team.
“Both from a playing and financial viewpoint the past season has been a marked success, and we trust that the . incoming season will stand out as a record in the annals of the West Football Club.”
The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to be : Balance brought forward, £5 12s 3d; subscriptions, senior £5, junior 10s; donations, £1 Ils ; social, £7 7s Id; The expenditure was shown as: Bank charges, 10s; advertising, JLOs; affiliation fees, £1 16s 6d ; bus .hire to Rotorua, £7 ss; petty cash, £2 ; football jerseys, etc., £5 17s 4d. Leaving a credit balance of £2 7s sd. In moving the adoption of the report am] balance-sheet the chairman congratulated , the seniors on their work, and also the juniors, who only lost by a narrow margin. The coming season, he said, augured well for the club, as already a number of players were in active training.
The rep'ort and balance'-sheet were adopted. . ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr R. W. Evans ; vice-patron, Mr G. A. Bush ; president, Mr Edwin Edwards ; vice-presidents, Messrs J. W. Silcock, H. M. Shand, J. Walmsley, E. W. G. Smith, E. S. Masters'EL V. Slyfield, M. Crosby, H. Poland ; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Snow; auditor, Mr W. L. Lawence; general committee, Messrs H. Shand, K. Slyfield, M. Poland', D. S. Kerr, J. Walmsley, W. Taylor; V. Carrick, L. C. Masters, and the captains of the seniors, juniors, and third grade; delegates to Paeroa Rugby Union annual meeting, Messrs H. Shand, E. Edwards, 'J. Walmsley, K. Slyfield, L. Snow, L. C. Masters ; selectors, seniors, Mr H. Shand ; juniors, Mr C. Rolton, thirdgrade, Mr D. S- Kerr ; social committee , Messrs. Carrick, Masters, Kerr, Poland, Slylie'kl; Knight, Fraser, and Snow.
The appointment of delegates to the Paeroa Rugby Union was left to the committee. GENERAL. A resolution was passed that no player be permitted to play after the first round wiho ;has not paid' his subscription. The subscriptions were fixed at 5s for seniors and 2s 6d for jun’or players.
A suggestion was put forward to the committee that a practice match be played between the seniors and juniors before the selectors graded the players. A notice of motion for the Paeroa Rugby Union, was tabled by Mr Masters to the effect that the allocation of players after the first round be cancelled;
A suggestion by Mr K. Slyfiefld that a club captain be elected at the annual meeting brought forth a resolution affirming the principle, and Mr J. Walmsley was dlected the first club captain. An offer of a dressing-room from Mr Monk was accepted with thanks. Several complaints were made by players that, they had los.t money and articles from their clothing when left in the dressing-shed l , and a recommendation was. passed that the Paeroa' Rugby Unon place a man in charge of the shed and lock the door when, t'he players left the room. The following new members were elected: D. Fraser, F. Knight, KLocket, E. N. Le Petit, A. Frost, and A. H. Maxwell.
It wasL decided, to ask all intending members to register before the annual meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union.
A resolution was passed asking the general committee to take in hand the matter of sending a team of seven pllayers to Rotorua to play in the seven-aside tournament at Easter. A recommendation was passed that the delegates to the Paeroa Rugby Union urge that the weight limit of the third grade players be eliminated or increased to ten stone. A vote of thanks to Mr Bain for tlie use of his room and to the president terminated the meeting.
