FOUND ON ROADSIDE.
WAITEKAURI MAN’S DEATH. FATAL FALL FROM HIS HORSE. As Mr Joseph Quintal, a taxi-driver, was, driving passengers to Waikino at about 9.15 on Friday evening he noticed, when near the Waitete bridge, the form of a man) lying on the side of the road. On investigation it was found to be. the dead body of Mr Andrew Gordon, a single man, 50 years of age, who lived with his mother, Mrs Margaret Gordon, at Waitekauri.
Leaving the passengers on the spot Mr Quintal, at once returned to Waihi and notified the police, who, with Dr. Gray, proceeded to the scene. On arrival the doctor could only pronounce life to be extinct, and the body was removed to the morgue. The. deceased had apparently been thrown off or fallen from this horse and sustained severe injuries to his head. The horse was found some little distance away. .
Mr. Gordpn was well and favourably known throughout the district, having lived with his mother, one of the pioneers of the Waitekauri district, for many years past, and the sympathy of a'.wide circle of friends will be extended to Mrs Gordon and other members of the family in their tragic bereavement.
An inquest was opened at Waihi bn Saturday morning, and after formal evidence of identification was, on the application of the police, adjourned until a later date to enable further inquiries to be made.
