WATER SUPPLY SCHEME.
AWAITI DISTRICT PROPOSAL.
PUMPING FROM RIVER.
Throughout, the Plains this summer the desirability of a water supply has been much discussed, andl in the Awaiti district the matter has advanced td such a stage that it is probable that a request will, be made to the. County Council at its next meeting to undertake the raising of a loan for the reticulation of the area. The matter was discussed at a public meeting on Friday last, when Mr W. Fleming, of Paeroa, ventured the opinion that a supply could be obtained by pumping from the Waihou River at about 2s an ;acre. The scheme would resemble those already in operation on the Pekapeka ankl GumtoWn roads, but would be much bigger, as over 400'0 acres would be included. Settlers from the Pukahu, Awaiti, Awaiti West, and School roads present at the meeting favoured the proposal, and set up a committee comprising Messrs J. Wakeham (secretary), M. A. Carter, W. Harold, J. B. Whisker E. Townshend, and E - Jamieson to canvass the district for the purpose 'of ascertaining the amount of support. The Wilson’s Road area was not represented at the meeting.
