A BAT ON THE HEAD.
FOREMAN AND CLERK OF WORKS. *' \ ■ There was a fracas on the,'new Waihou bridge construction works at Te Aroha on Saturday morning, when bloyKs were struck between the foreman of works, Mr Guinevari, and the clerk of works, Mr James, resulting in fairly extensive injuries to the head of the foreman which required medical attention (states, the News.): In a statement to a representative of the Te Aroha News the foreman alleged that he was discussing a report which appeared in an outside paper of the; last meeting of the Te Aroha Bor* ough Council with another man! who was on his way across the bridge, but he was not speaking about the clerk of works, to whom, he alleged, he had not spoken since November, when tlie clerk of works threatened himSuddenly, as he was bending dowrt, he received a. violent blow on the back of the head with some object wielded by the clerk of works;, who had evidently come up behind him, and before he could recover another blow . was struck. He then grappled with Mr James, but let go only to be at- . tacked again . with a shovel. This' time, tlie foreman stated, he securely held the clerk of worths until the men separated them. The matter is in the hands of the police, and it is expected that more w will be heard of the trouble in the neiar future.
