BOWLING.

LADIES’ NIGHT AT PAEROA. A SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT. In order to popularise, night bowling, and in order to give the womenfolk an opportunity of trying their skill, the Paeroa Bowling Club held a ladies’ night on the green last night. It was; advertised that a progressive . pairs tournament would be held, but owing to the large number of entries received and the enthusiasm shown a pairs tournament was out of the question, and it was necessary to play full-rink games of eight players, with the exception of two rinks which had t-:. arccmmodate six players» each. Ths weather conditions w’ere perfect, and the bowling green and environs made a pretty sight. Joyous, la ugh ter reigned, and the participants enjoyed the cool of the evening under the starry heaven. The president (Mr C. T. Mettam) extended a hearty welcome to thq ladies and expressed the hope that the competition would be enjoyed, and that it would be the forerunner of others. '

Games of fifteen, heads were; played, and at the conclusion it .was, found that the rink skipped by W. Purdie had won. The trophies were presented by the president, and Mrs GH. Taylor and Purdie, of the winning rink, graciously handed their prizes back and ashed that the club arrange another tournament. The president expressed the thanks of the club to the ladies who provided supper. Following are the details :—
