DRAINAGE BOUNDARIES.

QUESTION OF ALTERATION. KEREPEEHI HILL AREA. Alterations in the boundary between the Hauraki United and the Elstow drainage districts were discussed at the Hauraki United Board’s meeting at Turua, on Friday last. Mr M. A. Carter, a member of the Elst°w Board, waited on the board and pointed out the advisability of cclming to an agreement.

Some of the"Hauraki Board’s area drained towards the Awaiti through the Elstow Board’s land, said Mr Carter, and in view of the installation of pumps jt was desirable to come to an agreement either by way of contributing towards the pump or by altering the boundaries to) follow the watersheds. The Elstow Board favoured altering the boundaries. The area, particularly referred to was that of the Keepeehi hills, which drained into the Racecourse boundary drain. The Elstow Board would eventually injstal a pump in the Awaiti canalside drain, into which the Racecourse drain ■ emptied. The Elstow Board would therefore like to have the boundary between the two districts in the Ideality of the Pekapeka and Kaikahu roads 1 and the Kerepeehi township altered to follow the watershed. Mr J. M. Thompson, argued that there was no menace to the Elstow Board whatever. The racecourse drain certainly took Hauraki Urea water, but the installation of ti flood-gate to prevent the waiter going up tpi the Awaiti lakes, as alleged, would bp an adequate safeguard. The racecourse drain did not require a flood-gate, as tlie Piako in flood would not flow l up this drain.

Mr Carter maintained that sections 1,2, and 3 of Kaikahu Block did drain into the Elstow area, and his contention was that the boundary should pass through these sections. Mr Thompson said that all drainage from these sections could easily be made to the Elstow area, and it would be advisable to ajter the boundary to the Pekapeka Road frontage of these sections. Mr Hicks pointed out that the sections were in a - special rating area, and if the boundary was altered the Elstow Board would have to collect these special rates on; behalf of the Hauraki Board.

In the discussion that followed it Was suggested that the position would be remedied if the boundary between the two districts was altered to between sections 3 and 6 to the Pekapeka road, thence along that road and Wairau Road as far as the racecourse drain. One culvert between the racecourse drain and the Pekapeka corner should be blocked, and a, flood-gate should be installed to prevent the racecourse water travelling up the Awaiti Canal catchment drains to the Elstow Board’s pumping area.

Mr Carter thanked the board for' its consideratoin, and promised to place the matter before his board.
